Shakira has taken a stand against super-thin body standards, and we absolutely love it! Rather than working out like a maniac, she said she has been enjoying foods like pastries while spending time with her son Milan and trying to put out another album this month. It probably doesn't hurt that she has a husband who loves her body the way it is!
"My man, Gerard, prefers meat over bone," Shakira said in an interview with the February issue of Glamour. "He doesn't like too skinny. That takes pressure off. I already have a lot to worry about."
There is a lot of pressure to stay thin these days in Hollywood, especially for celebrity moms. Musicians, actresses and models, all feel the pressure of dieting, exercising and saying no to high-calorie foods — which are always the best tasting, of course!
The super-thin body image standard hasn't just put pressure on celebrities, but also on young girls across the country who look up to them. Luckily, not every celebrity goes along with crazy diet trends. Many embrace their curves and love to flaunt them, just like Shakira!
Beyoncé was recently in H&M's swimwear campaign in May. But after the international clothing franchise tried publishing Photoshopped photos of the bodacious singer, she went nuts and "hit the roof."
The fashion chain had airbrushed Beyoncé's naturally curvy figure, which she works hard to keep in shape, so that she appeared thinner and leaner than she really is. Luckily, Beyoncé and her people refused to let the photos be published, so H&M were forced to release the original photos of Beyoncé's famous curves.
Back in 2006 when Beyoncé filmed the movie Dreamgirls, she decided to lose 20 Ibs. in order to play the younger version of her character Deena Jones in the movie, who is based on the real-life singer Diana Ross. She wanted to see a drastic change in order to look believable. But immediately after filming the movie, the curvy singer ditched the diet and went back to her curvaceous body.
3. Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez has always been known to defy the skinny standard and embrace the body she was given. In November, a JLo Barbie was launched, looking just like the Latino singer. The doll is even dressed in one of her red carpet dresses designed by Zuhair Murad. But one thing the doll lacks is JLo's famously curvy figure. Fans were furious about the JLo Barbie's body, saying that it didn't represent what JLo is really about.
In an interview with Cosmopolitan for Latinas, the "Let's Get Loud" singer said she grew up in the Bronx, which helped her love who she was because her body was "nothing out of the ordinary" in her neighborhood. "When I first started on television, people, and even my own manager at the time, would tell me I had to make all of these changes," Lopez said. "But you have to stand up and say, 'There's nothing wrong with me or my shape or who I am, you're the one with the problem!' And when you can really believe that, all of a sudden other people start believing too."
4. Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian has always had a curvy body and loves to show off her full hips and rear-end. The Keeping up with the Kardashians star said she loved her curves during pregnancy and even loved how her breast size went up as well. But after giving birth she became a bit self-conscious and was eager to lose her post-baby body weight fast. Luckily, her fiancé Kanye West was there to tell her how great she looked during the whole pregnancy process. West has even told her to keep her curvaceous body!
But Kardashian is sure to keep us all in the loop as she sheds the pounds a little bit each day while still preserving her famous curves. North West's baby mama recently posted a selfie of herself and a friend after working out, showing off the shaped bodies they work so hard to keep.
5. Sophia Vergara
Sophia Vergara says she loves her curves because then she can fill in the dresses that she wears on the red carpet. "They want to see Gloria like a voluptuous woman," the Modern Family actress told Shape.
And the Colombian actress makes sure that everyone knows it, wearing clinging dresses and outfits that flaunt her curves. To her, sexy doesn't mean skinny. Instead, sexy means having hips and a butt for your man to enjoy looking at. "In Colombia everybody's very voluptuous, and you're supposed to be," she said. "You don't want to be skinny when all of your cousins are mermaids. You grow up thinking that's how beauty is."
