Shia LaBeouf reportedly refused to shower while filming his new WWII tank movie, Fury, with Brad Pitt. A source told Perez Hilton that his behavior was so grating on people's nerves that he had to be bounced around between three different hotels. "Shia was warned about his behavior by several people on set, including Brad Pitt and director David Ayer ... He didn't heed any of their warnings and found himself staying in a small bed-and-breakfast hotel away from the rest of the cast," the source revealed.
Being separated from the cast didn't do much to curb his bad behavior. "Shia drove everyone mad on set trying to prove that he was the most dedicated star...He pulled out his own tooth during the first few weeks of filming and then refused to shower for weeks on end so he could better understand how his character would have felt living in the trenches." Pulling out his own tooth and refusing to shower for weeks? Obviously he was trying his hand at method acting but when he started making the rest of the cast and crew uncomfortable and disgusted by his behavior, that's when things should have stopped.
It sounds almost unbelievably gross that LaBeouf would stop showering for weeks, not to mention completely rude and disrespectful to the people who were forced to work with him every day — even if it was in the name of getting into character.
Daniel Day-Lewis is known for method acting and going to great lengths to get into character, even if it comes at the expense of others. For example he scared off Kel O'Neill from There Will be Blood after O'Neill claimed Day-Lewis' character was just too intense for him to work alongside day after day. He also refused to bathe while filming The Crucible to get the feeling of what it was to live by 17th century standards
Is Shia LaBeouf plagiarizing Daniel Day-Lewis' acting method? Probably not! But Whatever his reason for not showering and pulling out his own tooth while filming Fury, doesn't make up for the fact that those things are gross and unhygienic. That's why we hope he apologised afterwards and took a long hot shower or ten.
