The bride wore pink! Kaley Cuoco surprised her fans twice on New Year's Day. Not only did the Big Bang Theory actress marry tennis pro Ryan Sweeting after a short engagement, but she also donned a pink Vera Wang gown. After steering clear of a classic white style, fans have been debating whether the bubble-gum hue looked chic or cheap.
There's no question Cuoco was gorgeous in the Chantilly lace gown with a sweetheart neckline. But is pink appropriate for a wedding?
More and more brides are straying from traditional white gowns, wearing everything from canary yellow to fire-engine red. But powder pink seems to be the color of choice for Hollywood, with It Girls Jessica Biel and Reese Witherspoon choosing the pastel shade for their nuptials, too.
When Jessica Biel tied the knot she got married to Justin Timberlake in a pink Giambattista Valli gown. "I wanted the dress to be very romantic and feminine and a shape that I very rarely wear," Biel later revealed to Elle. "I have never been crazy about all-white wedding dresses, for me at least,"
"[Giambattista Valli] had created that same fabric in a fuchsia-and-pink combination for a dress in a previous collection, and I asked him if he could create that same pattern in a white combination, and he suggested pink. It was a bit of a leap of faith at the time, but it turned out better than I could have ever imagined. [Putting it on], I felt like I had made the right choice. I felt elegant. And it moved like a dream," she explained. Clearly a pink wedding dress was a perfect fit for Biel, and she wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
Reese Witherspoon walked down the aisle in custom-designed Monique Lhuillier blush-hued gown when she married Jim Toth. The dreamy dress had a Chantilly lace corset bodice and full tulle A-line skirt. The gown was double-face silk satin ribbon with floral embellishments. Witherspoon's daughter Ava, 11, also wore a matching Lhuillier dress!
Other stars who have gotten hitched in pink include Anne Hathaway in Valentino, Gwen Stefani in John Galiano for Dior, and Portia De Rossi in Zac Posen. Pink wedding gowns are nothing new, but the pastel hue seems to be hotter than ever these days.
