The Kardashians sure do know how to celebrate the holidays. The now infamous Kardashian Christmas card was the most detailed and bizarre of this year's celebrity Season's Greetings. The Kardashians supposedly spent $250,000 on this lavish Christmas card, and the boys of the family are nowhere to be seen!
They may not have intended to be awkward, but it definitely isn't like any card we expect to receive this season. Celebrity Christmas cards have been getting more and more awkward this year, feeding into the internet culture of memes and cringe pictures. It's almost as though Christmas cards have become an opportunity to embrace the silly. Here are some of our favorite awkward celebrity Christmas cards from this year and last.
American Beauty actress Mena Suvari recently embraced the internet memes of cats and ugly sweaters with her Christmas greeting on Instagram. She and her boyfriend, Sal Sanchez, posed with their family cat Bianca. Suvari is sporting the mandatory side ponytail and a wooden soldier sweater. A frightening photo of Bianca is overlaid in the top of the card. She captioned the photo, "HAPPY HOLIDAYS Love, @salsancheztat2s @mena13suvari and Ms. Blanca Thanx to @reveckan."
True to form, Ellen DeGeneres debuted her Christmas card on The Ellen DeGeneres Show as homage to Kanye West's sexy video for "Bound 2." Instead of West and his fiancée Kim Kardashian on the motorcycle together, Ellen and wife Portia de Rossi pose with a sexy backdrop. The card reads, "Bound for a Merry Christmas." There have been rumors that the couple have been having some issues lately, but Ellen dismissed the reports on her show. And by the looks of their Christmas card, they are still in love.
Kelly Clarkson joined in on the fun and posted an awkward family photo on Twitter in honor of the holidays. Clarkson and new husband Brandon Blackstock posed with Blackstock's two children and their two family dogs — all of whom are held hostage by Santa as he enjoys his Christmas treats of milk and cookies. The little boy's priceless expression totally makes the photo!
And a favorite from 2012, wife of Mario Lopez tweeted a cheeky photo of her husband and daughter setting the star on their tree. Their daughter, Gia, holds onto her father's legs on the ladder as he sets the star in place. The catch is that Mario is wearing itty bitty underwear. She captioned the photo, "My husband looks hot rockin his @RatedMOfficial with his little elf....#lovethem." This might not be too shocking since both Mario and Courtney Lopez were underwear models for Rated M's campaign.
