One of Paul Walker's ex-girlfriends, former model Aubrianna Atwell, is taking the actor's death particularly hard. According to Las Vegas Review Journal, the two remained close after the breakup, and Walker was even planning on attending her father's funeral. David Atwell died of cancer last Monday, just days before Walker's death in a fiery car crash.
"He was the most generous, unconditionally loving person I've known," Atwell said of Paul Walker. "He gave everything. I will live my life to the fullest extent for my father and Paul."
According to the Las Vegas Sun, Paul Walker met Aubrianna Atwell when she attended model school about 12 years ago. They dated on and off and even briefly moved in together before breaking up.
"I met him at the Hollywood Canteen with a bunch of friends," Atwell said. "We just became friends and ended up in a relationship. We have been in each other's lives ever since. We talked every week, at least. We talked a lot about his daughter [15-year-old Meadow], who was everything to him."
Indeed, Atwell called Paul Walker one of her best friends, even after the two split up. The pair "traveled the world together" and recently attended a San Francisco Giants game for her birthday.
"I raced home from that so my father, who was ill, could see me become baptized," Aubrianna Atwell continued. "These were the two loves of my life and the most important men in my life. I am devastated."
Before Paul Walker's death, Aubrianna Atwell's father reportedly penned the actor a note thanking him for taking good care of his daughter. "My dad told him how much he loved him and how much he appreciated him protecting me," Paul Walker's former girlfriend said. "It was an overdue expression of gratitude."
Paul Walker died in Santa Clarita on Saturday after the Porsche he was riding in crashed into a light pole and burst into flames. Both Walker and the car's driver, Roger Rodas, died in the wreck. Walker was in the city for a charity car show.
While early rumors speculated that Rodas and Walker were drag racing at the time, that theory has now been ruled out. Instead, it looks like the car suffered some sort of mechanical failure, as the actor and his friend supposedly took the Porsche out for a drive that day to see what was wrong.
"Roger wasn't the kind of guy to go max speed on a small street, same thing with Paul," a motorsport professional who was at the charity event told The Hollywood Reporter. These guys have respect for the car and they wouldn't do it like that. These guys are business owners and Paul was a celebrity. They are responsible people. It was more like, 'What the hell is wrong with this car? Let's see what's wrong and go for a drive.' These guys were more like, 'That's weird, the car is stalling, let's figure it out.'"
