Can you imagine raising Anna Nicole Smith's daughter all on your own? Larry Birkhead, the father of Anna Nicole Smith's daughter Dannielynn, sat down with ABC and told the news organization what it's like being a single father and raising a child who was born into stardom. "I just spent the last several years ignoring what happened and trying to be as happy as I can," Birkhead said in the interview.

After Smith's drug-related death at the age of 39, the ex-photographer took his newborn baby to Kentucky where his family lives and has been working on having a somewhat normal life while raising Dannielynn. "I thought that was a safe place to get away from everything," he said.

Birkhead hasn't told his 7-year-old daughter anything about her mother's wild lifestyle, he explained. Instead he has emphasized that Anna Nicole Smith was always beautiful. Birkhead joked in an interview with E! saying: "And as she gets older, I may have to get Dr. Phil in or something."

Life with Smith was always wild and crazy, Birkhead has said in interviews. Even when the model broke the news that she was pregnant, things didn't calm down, according to reports.

In an interview with Oprah, Birkhead said: "She was a diet pill spokesperson, so the fact that she was pregnant was supposed to be a big secret because there's not that many markets for a pregnant diet pill spokesperson. So that created some tension."

According to reports, Birkhead rarely heard from the blond model because she bolted for the Bahamas and eventually gave birth to Dannielynn two months later in a Nassau hospital. "I had to go onto Anna's website and pay a monthly subscription just to see how she was telling her fans how the baby was, and that's how I got my information," Birkhead told Oprah.

But Birkhead spoke up in the recent interview with ABC saying that he has been enjoying what he can of his life with his daughter and making sure she stays out of the spotlight as much as she can. Nevertheless it breaks Bikhead's heart that Dannielynn does not have a mother who can be her role model.

Dannielynn will reportedly inherit $49 million from Anna Nicole Smith's estate, which was a battle that took more than a decade to resolve. But for now her father wants to teach her what a normal upbringing is like without all the money and fame, which will hopefully help save the young celebrity as she gets older.
