On Friday, Vulture.com reported that CBS is planning a reboot of the popular WB series. The show revolved around a trio of witch sisters and lasted for eight seasons. Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs and Shannen Doherty played the threesome, though Doherty's character was later killed off and replaced by Rose McGowan.
As the Vulture article noted, CBS has only ordered a pilot script for the Charmed reboot. This means the series is a long way from appearing on our television screens this fall. There is no guarantee that the pilot will even be filmed.
Still, witches are clearly a hot concept right now. Lifetime recently launched a similar series titled Witches of East End. In addition, the current season of American Horror Story also heavily features these supernatural creatures. Charmed also still has loyal fans, even before this reboot. A recent study found that the series was the second-most binged show on Netflix and other similar subscription video-on-demand platforms.

"I think really it's due to the success of Charmed and the fact that it had so much success even after it was done, meaning that people looked for it, people searched it out and watched those episode over and over," Milano said of the witch trend. "The Charmed fans are the greatest fans on the planet and the most loyal fans on the planet. I feel like networks are trying to replicate that."
McGowan, meanwhile, did not specifically mentioned the Charmed reboot in her tweets. But she did note on Friday that Hollywood is recycling a lot of old ideas, so it's likely she was referring to her old series.
