Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr have officially announced their divorce after three years of marriage. According to E! News, which first reported news of the breakup, the split was amicable. But it is unknown exactly what caused the breakup.
"In a joint statement, Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr have announced that they have been amicably separated for the past few months," Bloom's rep said. "After six years together, they have recently decided to formalize their separation. Despite this being the end of their marriage, they love, support and respect each other as both parents of their son and as family."
That son, Flynn, was born in 2011. The couple began dating in 2007 and married in July 2010.
Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr had not been photographed together for several weeks. Still, there were few signs that this couple was heading for divorce. Earlier this month Kerr gushed about her husband's Broadway debut in Romeo and Juliet, where he stars opposite Condola Rashad.
"When I saw Orlando on Broadway ... I was blown away," she told Cosmopolitan. "For someone to be able to learn all that and hold the energy to do it every day, six days a week — I have so much respect for him."
Still, there were rumors in the past that Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr were heading for divorce. Late last year, speculation heated up when Kerr was spotted without her wedding ring. The model was also accused of flirting with Leonardo DiCaprio at a club, though reports insisted the two were just friends. A source also told Daily Mail last December that the marriage was still going strong.
"All these [breakup] rumors are utterly false," the source said. "They're spending the holidays together with Orlando's family. Both have been working on opposite sides of the world, and it will be their first opportunity to spend some time together."
Orlando Bloom first shot to fame as Legolas Greenleaf in the Lord of the Rings franchise, a role he will reprise in the upcoming The Hobbit films. The actor also starred as Will Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
Miranda Kerr, meanwhile, is a former Victoria's Secret Angel and a spokesmodel for companies like Lipton and Qantas. Forbes recently ranked her second on its list of the highest-paid models in the world. According to the website, Kerr made $7.2 million between June 2012 and June 2013.
