Josh Marks was found dead in a Chicago alley on Friday, according to TMZ. Police believe he committed suicide. The 26-year-old was the runner-up on Fox's MasterChef Season 3, where he lost to Christine Ha.
The Chicago Police Department told TMZ that they were called to the scene by a woman who was yelling for help. When they arrived, they supposedly found Marks with a gunshot wound to his head. However, police have not officially announced the man's identity.
Graham Elliot, a judge on MasterChef, seemingly confirmed Josh Marks' death with a tweet on Friday night. "My heart goes out to the family of #MasterChef finalist Josh Marks, who passed away today," he wrote. "Please send thoughts/prayers their way! RETWEET"
The aforementioned Christine Ha also posted the news. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to @mc3josh's family," she tweeted. "Thank you for respecting the privacy of hisfriends and family during this time."
The reported death comes just months after Josh Marks was arrested for assaulting a police officer near the University of Chicago. Police supposedly found the MasterChef finalist trying to use a campus phone. When a cop asked him if anything was wrong, Marks attacked him and tried to take away his gun. He then escaped to a nearby backyard, where five police had to subdue the 7'2" contestant.
During the incident, Marks supposedly accused MasterChef judge Gordon Ramsay of possessing him and turning him into God. After the arrest, Josh Marks was charged with aggravated battery on a peace officer and attempting to disarm a peace officer.
A short time later, reports came out that the MasterChef finalist was suffering from bipolar disorder. Josh Marks apparently made a video for the "Make A Sound Project" last year. The organization helps people who are struggling with mental illness.
"Me personally, I have bipolar disorder," Marks said in the clip, per TMZ. " ... I get a little anxious sometimes, and you know how I cool out is I listen to music ... and just listen to the words and just relax, you know, find my melody."
This also was not the first time Josh Marks was in trouble with the law. Per TMZ, the MasterChef finalist was also arrested in June on trespassing charges. He allegedly snuck into a Chicago condo several times, claiming that he lived there even though he really did not.
