It has been a long time since audiences have seen Meg Ryan grace the screen in a romantic comedy, and many have wondered where she went. It appears that People magazine may have the answer to that, as a friend of the Sleepless in Seattle star has revealed that she exchanged the Los Angeles spotlight for a quieter existence in New York.

Ryan, 51, has reportedly been living a quaint existence with daughter Daisy, 8, and longtime boyfriend and rock star John Mellencamp. Her quiet lifestyle is a stark contrast to over a decade ago, when Ryan was involved in a very public and turbulent 10-year relationship with actor Dennis Quad. The couple met in 1987 and had one son together.

During the end of her marriage with Quad, Ryan admitted to having an affair with Russell Crowe, telling InStyle magazine that it was bittersweet to go from "America's sweetheart" to a "scarlet woman."

"'So this is what it feels like to be the scarlet woman. Oh! I'm having that experience now,'" she reported feeling in 2008. "It was also incredibly liberating. Now I was utterly free. I didn't have to care about what people thought. I have gotten to do what I guess I secretly wanted to do. Be totally under the radar and live my life."
