Is Michael Jordan's daughter gay? The basketball legend's daughter, Jasmine, is rumored to be a lesbian after a gossip blog reported that she is dating a player on the Syracuse University women's basketball team named Carmen. A photo of Carmen and Jasmine together has also appeared on Instagram, but neither of them have publicly commented on whether they are gay. Jordan's daughter currently attends Syracuse University and is currently majoring in sports management.
Jasmine took to Instagram last week to address the gay rumors about her and wrote: "Until love, trust, honesty, respect, loyalty, commitment, genuine happiness and other characteristics or aspects I want in a relationship is defined by one gender then and only then will I discuss my sexual preference." While gossip sites took the post to mean that Jasmine was indirectly coming out as a lesbian, Jordan's daughter has not identified as gay, straight or bisexual.
She also indirectly addressed the lesbian rumors in a separate Instagram post two weeks ago, stating that she did not wish to draw attention or gossip to herself. "I don't consider myself a celebrity or anything like that," she wrote. "I'm a human being. Nothing more or less! But PLEASE save your negativity for someone who's going to give a damn about it. That's not me though."
In addition to gay rumors about her, Jasmine has also had to deal with the stigma that comes with being the daughter of an NBA legend. Jordan's daughter said some students at Syracuse had preconceived notions before even meeting her and that she received dirty looks from some peers from the moment she arrived.
"The issue comes when people make assumptions on who I am because I am his daughter. People assume I play basketball or wear Jordan's everyday and neither of those is true," she said to blog The Boss Up. "I do not play basketball but I know the game. I don't wear Jordan's everyday because I like to switch it up. I always say I'm a pretty open book. You want to know what it is like being Michael Jordan's daughter just ask me instead of making assumptions and drawing incorrect conclusions about me."
Her father has never commented publicly commented about homosexuality or expressed his views on the subject.
