Is Matt Lauer ever leaving the Today Show? It seems an eternity since last summer's debacle where NBC fired beloved co-anchor Ann Curry from the set of the morning television show, and though Matt Lauer has allegedly been cleared of all guilt in the ousting of Ann Curry, the fact still remains that much of NBC's staff wish Matt Lauer would go ahead and leave already!

It doesn't seem, however, that Matt Lauer will ever be leaving NBC's Today Show, as latest reports reveal that nine jobs were allegedly cut from the company budget, while Matt Lauer's remained in place with a nice $21.5 million salary to boot! Though this is somewhat less than the initial reports we heard of Matt Lauer securing a $25 million contract, still, the fact remains, many would just like to see the anchor leave the Today Show altogether.

According to a recent report by the National Enquirer, a source at NBC claims Matt Lauer isn't leaving the Today Show, in part, because of a letter of support written by Kathie Lee Gifford that NBC staff felt forced to sign.

When the letter became public, Kathie Lee Gifford offered this explanation as to why she and the staff had signed it. "We all wanted to say something to Matt, and nobody wanted to put him in a position that would make him uncomfortable ... So unbeknownst to anyone higher up at NBC, I just started this thing."

This "thing", however, seemed to make a number of staff members uncomfortable as they felt there was not an option to refuse signing. According to the National Enquirer's source, "Many members of the Today Show staff would like nothing more than to have their names stricken from that letter ... They'd like to see both Matt and Kathie Lee ridden out on a rail!"

Of course it's been no secret that Matt Lauer and NBC staff don't always see eye to eye, as the morning show host is said to be "demeaning and dismissive" and it is often difficult to work with him. After the firing of Ann Curry from the Today Show, morale plummeted even further. Things weren't any warmer on the outside for Matt Lauer as fans of the ousted Ann Curry were quite verbal about their distain for her co-anchor. At one point, Matt Lauer even shared that people would shout at him in the streets, calling him names and telling him they wished he would leave the Today Show. It was rumored that in 2014, Matt Lauer might not renew his contract with NBC and the Today Show as he was one of several possible choices in line to take Alex Trebek's place as host of Jeopardy.

Still, time has gone on and Matt Lauer has remained as NBC's Today Show host. Lately there's been no further news about him leaving. The fact Matt Lauer continues to stay on the Today Show, in spite of the multiple job cuts, has made many a staffer bitter. According to the National Enquirer's source, "One staffer told me, 'A lot of people here feel betrayed. We all signed that letter, but when the shoe was on the other foot, Matt did nothing to support us." This comment is likely in reference to the jobs, which were cut. This summer when cuts were first spoken of, Matt Lauer became quite adamant that he intended to take no reduction of his $25 million salary — even if meant saving staff jobs. Matt Lauer has currently signed a contract for $21.5 million, so at some point, he must have been forced to reconsider his stance. Still, despite this pay cut, staffers still seem to harbor a hope that, eventually, Matt Lauer will be leaving the Today Show.

What do you think about Matt Lauer remaining on the Today Show? Has he suffered enough from the Anne Curry firing drama or would it be best if he would leave NBC's morning show?
