Kerry Washington kept her marriage to Nnamdi Asomugha secret from even her closest of friends, but the Scandal star is finally opening about her romantic wedding and why she's decided to keep her relationship out of the spotlight.
Washington's secret wedding was revealed just weeks ago, and while the 36-year-old is happily flaunting her ring, it doesn't mean she's going to dish on the nuptials any time soon. "I'm walking around in the world with my ring," Washington said. "When people say congratulations, I say thank you. But I'm going to continue to not talk about it and just let it unfold," the newlywed explained.
With fans begging for bridal details, Washington realizes her decision to keep quiet may not be well-received, but she said she's intent on staying true to her word. "I don't want to sound smug about it... but the point is to do what's best for me," Washington said. "I have girlfriends in this business who talk about their personal lives, and it works for them, and I love it. But not for me," the stunning actress explained.
Washington's mission to keep her relationship private may be shocking in a world of celebrities whose wedding photos grace magazine covers, but she explained what motivated the decision. "I learned through experience that it doesn't work for me to talk about my personal life," Washington said. "I've had earlier times in my career when I did talk about. I was on the cover of a bridal magazine."
Washington is referring to her ill-fated relationship with David Moscow, who she was dating when she covered InStyle Weddings in 2005. While Washington was reveling in the engagement, the relationship ultimately ended in 2007 with a broken engagement, and it's likely the headline-making split was a wake-up call for the actress.
"I couldn't just turn around and say, 'I only want to talk about the good stuff, but not the bad stuff,'" Washington said. "So I just thought, 'OK, no more.'" Washington now makes a habit of declining to dish on her personal life, but sometimes she lets a detail slip. "I will say I'm really happy," Washington recently said. "I'm blessed in all areas of my life."
