Miley Cyrus raised multiple eyebrows during her instantly infamous Video Music Awards performance in which she twerked and grinded on singer Robin Thicke, but now the former Disney star is telling reporters that she is actually "messed up."
Cyrus, 20, admitted to Sunday People in Britain that she is always concerned for her health, saying, "I'm messed up ... I have so many f**king issues."
Cyrus added that it was her lack of normalcy growing up that has led her break out now. "I don't have a normal life," she said. "I take a hiatus every now and again, but I'm not good at that. During Hannah Montana, I think people knew I was acting. I've never been able to hide anything, a bit like Justin Bieber."
Now, the "We Can't Stop" singer has stripped herself of her former wholesome image, replacing pin-straight locks with grills and cropped hair.
"Others who have been on kids shows try to act like their characters — but I'm not like that," Cyrus admitted.
Cyrus continued by discussing the Disney channel parents who have openly criticized the star for her new, racy persona. "Parents wrote in with messages saying things like, 'I can't believe she spoke to her dad like that' or 'I can't believe she wore that shirt' or 'I can't believe the lead actress has boobs.' It's crazy. But they can't make people not grow up."
