According to reports, the two singers had dinner together at Sons of Essex on Friday, and Perez Hilton claimed the former flames were alone. But New York Post said that Drake actually showed up first with a group of 10 people and was later joined by Rihanna.
"They were in very good spirits and were dancing and singing," a source said. "Drake and Rihanna seemed to be just friends enjoying a fun night out."
Meanwhile, Hollywood Life noted that Drake gave his former duet partner a friendly kiss before they parted. "He was such a gentleman," a witness said. "He had one of his muscle [bodyguards] scoot her chair back, he stood up after she did and he told her she 'looked beautiful as always.'"
It's possible Rihanna and Drake have been dating for a while. Media Takeout reported last month that the former flames were indeed back together. "Rihanna and Drake have history, and they really want to make this into a real relationship — so they're keeping this quiet," a source told the website. "I think Rihanna's in love."
Still, it is odd that Drake would go back to Rihanna, since he apparently did not have a good experience the last time they dated. The rapper spoke with Elle in 2011 about his relationship with the singer.
"At the time it hurt, but she didn't mean to," Drake said. "I'll never put that on her. I was hurt because I started to slowly realize what it was. I guess I thought it was more."
But if Rihanna and Drake are dating again, the " Stay" singer certainly did not give any hint of her budding relationship during the VMAs. Per Hollywood Life, Rihanna looked bored during the rapper's performance, though she did not exactly appear enthused during other parts of the ceremony, either.
