Bruce Jenner was caught between his mother and his wife in Sunday's episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. In the show, Kris Jenner revealed that she had only met Esther four times since she married the Olympic champion.
Bruce Jenner tried to convince Kris to come with him to his mother's home for her 87th birthday. But Kris Jenner felt there was no point in visiting someone who could not stand her, no matter what she did. "She has yelled at me — I stay away from people like that," Kris Jenner said.
The family matriarch added that she tried to be as nice as possible last time Esther came to visit. "I made her dinner, I made her brownies, I made her pasta, my favorite soup," Kris Jenner said. "I put flowers in her room. I made her feel like a princess!"
But it was no help. "She doesn't even like me," Bruce Jenner's wife added. "Why would I go visit somebody who can't stand me?"
Eventually, Bruce Jenner decided to have Esther travel to the Kardashian home for her birthday. At first the meeting was predictably awkward, but by episode's end, the two ladies had an important heart-to-heart.
Esther admitted to Kris Jenner that she was not as close to her daughter-in-law as she should have been. "It was very complicated I think," Jenner responded. "Just a lot of personalities in the mix and stuff going on."
"I have felt like I should stay away, stay out of the picture, and I have," Esther then said. "But it's not right. [This has been] the longest marriage he has had. You've been good for him and I think he's been good for you."
The two even hugged before Esther left for her Idaho home. So it appears that this relationship between Bruce Jenner's wife and his mother is no longer causing a strain in his marriage.
Still, divorce rumors continue to swirl around the couple. Earlier this month, OK! Magazine reported that Kris and Bruce Jenner wanted to spend some time apart.
"Kris and Bruce still love each other very much but sometimes Kris can just get a little too much to handle so Bruce distances himself," a source said. "He is a relatively low-drama guy. Bruce just wants a place for some peace and quiet, it's all he really has ever wanted and hasn't had much of for the last few years."
This, in turn, has led to speculation that Kris and Bruce Jenner are only staying together in order to maintain the image of a happy marriage on their reality show. Some believe that when KUWTK ends, the couple will get divorced.
InTouch also reported earlier this year that Kris and Bruce Jenner's marriage was in trouble. "It's gotten to a point where he's accepted this marriage is not working for him," a source said. "He says they never have sex and she's nasty to him — and he's had enough."
Kris Jenner, for her part, denied this divorce rumor during an appearance on The View back in June. "Everything is perfect," she said. "It's silly. We've been married for 23 years and hopefully another 23 more."
