"She was my best friend from the show," Girardi told Celebuzz. "I had no idea she was fighting any of these demons at all. I was shocked more than anything."
Girardi and Allemand both appeared on Jake Pavelka's season of The Bachelor. Girardi ultimately got her man (before the couple split up), while Allemand moved into the Bachelor Pad. She reportedly had a brief relationship with fellow Bachelor alum Wes Hayden, but rumors swirled that he hooked up with Girardi in Texas.
This soon led to a bitter Twitter feud between the former BFFs. The website WetPaint posted a poll asking who should be the next Bachelorette, and both Girardi and Allemand were among the choices. Allemand then tweeted the poll with the message, "I guess I can hope to be the bachelorette now that wes is dating vienna!"
Girardi took great offense to this tweet, responding, "It's sad that people have to make up lies (Gia) that I'm dating someone so they can get sympathy and attempt to become the bachelorette."
Replied Allemand: "Dear vienna, u have no class and are a bad friend everyone saw you guys at the reunion and in texas. And u even approached me hope they got it on camera.. We will see soon on the women tell all. The world already knows ur true colors."
Hayden, for his part, denied ever dating Allemand or Girardi. Still, the pair's rivalry continued on Season 2 of Bachelor Pad until Allemand quit in the second episode. You can watch video of that moment below.
But despite all the drama between the pair, the two apparently patched things up before Allemand's untimely death. "She was a beautiful person with a beautiful soul," Girardi added. "It's hard when this happens when the person is so young and so beautiful."
It is unclear exactly why Allemand supposedly committed suicide, but reports indicate that she was in a difficult relationship with NBA star Ryan Anderson. Girardi, who said she last spoke to Allemand a few months before her death, admitted that she did not see any signs of trouble. "The way she talked about him, she was going to marry him," Girardi added. "It's so hard being one of her closest friends you never really know the demons people are battling."
Girardi was not the only one to comment on Allemand's death. Fellow Bachelor and Bachelorette stars took to Twitter to express their condolences.
The man who broke Allemand's heart has also reacted to her passing. "I am in complete shock and devastated to hear the news about Gia," wrote Pavelka. "She was one of the sweetest people I have ever known."
