Casper Smart gave girlfriend Jennifer Lopez a rather lavish birthday gift in the form of a diamond ring that the singer was recently spotted wearing, fueling rumors that she may be engaged to her backup dancer-turned-boyfriend.
Lopez wore the diamond ring to the opening of a Viva Movil store in Brooklyn on Friday, and the former American Idol judge was the picture of a blushing bride. J-Lo wore a pretty white dress by Elie Saab with lacy details that was cinched at the waist, along with matching ankle-strap pumps in the same bridal shade, but most noticeable was the diamond sparkler she was rocking on her ring finger. Casper Smart chose the gorgeous vintage ring for Lopez's 44th birthday on the recommendations of her stylists Mariel Haenn and Rob Zangardi who sent him to Larry Platt's Boutique.
"He told me he had bought her jewelry before, but never vintage," Platt said of Smart's ring selection process. "So he wanted to go in a different direction, something one-of-a-kind," the jewelry designer explained. Lopez's love smartly chose a diamond ring that would complement his girlfriend's staple pieces, opting for a gold band and sparkly diamonds.
"He has a very good eye and knew what he wanted. He was looking for vintage pieces that had a chic, modern feel to them," Platt revealed. "He told me that there are only two pieces of jewelry that Jennifer wears on a daily basis, so he wanted to pick pieces that he felt she would wear all the time and could with everything," the jewelry expert said. Casper's diamond ring selection certainly didn't disappoint, and his lucky lady received an added bonus in the form of a diamond chain link bracelet made of yellow-gold and diamonds from the 1970s.
"He appreciated the fact that pieces were beautifully made, from a different era and were completely unique," Smart's jewelry advisor explained. Lopez clearly appreciated Smart's thoughtful gifts, having been wearing the ring for the last week, but according to her reps the diamond doesn't represent an engagement between the musical couple despite the fact that they've been dating for nearly two years.
It's not the first time Lopez and Smart have had to deny engagement speculation. In 2012 Lopez took to Twitter to dispel marriage rumors. "Don't be fooled by the rocks that I got. No engagement!" Lopez quipped, after sources reported that another diamond ring from Smart meant he had proposed. Although the Lopez and Smart are still waiting out for marriage, the mom of Max and Emme isn't shy about her professing her love for her boyfriend.
"He's adorable. But you already see that," Lopez said of Smart. "He really is [sweet]. He's a good egg. I don't want to talk about it too much. It's my private thing," the "Live It Up" singer gushed.
