Geraldo Rivera is known for generating attention and controversy, but the recent half-nude "selfie" that he posted to Twitter is drawing attention for all the wrong reasons. Rivera, 70, posted a semi-nude photo on Twitter of himself wearing nothing but a towel and rose-colored glasses early Sunday morning. The nude selfie spurred celebrity reactions of admiration (of his toned body) and disgust (at seeing the Fox host shirtless). Rivera later deleted the semi-nude Twitter photo, but it had already gone viral with more than 1,000 retweets.
The broadcaster posted the semi-nude selfie on Twitter with the caption: "70 is the new 50 (Erica and family are going to be so pissed...but at my age...)." Rivera removed the photo the same day and later wrote, "Note to self: no tweeting after 1am." However, numerous celebrities including Lena Dunham, Chrissy Teigen and Meghan McCain had already taken to Twitter to voice their opinions about Rivera's semi-nude Twitter photo.
Lena Dunham, star and creator of HBO series Girls, wrote: "The oppositional teen in me wants to be like 'leave Geraldo alone!' but I can't deal with his penis bones." Swimsuit model Chrissy Teigen reacted to Rivera's nude photo by tweeting, "I opened up Geraldo's photo and my neighbor now thinks I have some old man fetish thanks." Political commentator Meghan McCain expressed disgust at the nude Rivera photo by tweeting: "Thanks internet, I cannot unsee Geraldo Rivera's naked selfie. So much wrong. So. Much. Wrong..."
The one person who expressed approval of the nude photo is his fifth wife, Erica Michelle Levy. Levy spoke to E! Online as the photo went viral and said she thought Rivera was still in great shape for his age. "This is exactly the kind of thing that happens when I fall asleep first...Thank god we have towels in the bathroom," she said. "But I'm proud my husband looks so hot!"
Rivera married Levy in 2003 and the couple have a 7-year-old daughter together. He also has four other children from his previous marriages. He is currently the host of Geraldo At Large on Fox News and hosts two syndicated morning radio shows. Rivera is reportedly considering a Senate run in New Jersey as a Republican.
