It has been five days since Cory Monteith was found dead in a Vancouver, Canada hotel room. And since the star's devastating death, fans and friends alike have mourned over the world's tremendous loss. But it was Emmy nominee Jane Lynch whose reaction to the passing of her friend and co-star left us deeply moved.
The 53-year-old Glee star stopped by The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night to promote her new game show Hollywood Game Night. However, the conversation took an obvious turn when the white-haired host brought up the death of the Canadian native.
"I want to commend you for being here tonight," Leno said to Lynch. "I know you're a real pro. And it's been a really tough week for the whole Glee family because you lost Cory Monteith." After Leno expressed his condolences he then politely asked Lynch to tell him about her friend, whom he never had the chance to meet.
"Cory's one of the biggest hearts, was a real bright light," she told Leno. "He was one of those guys that, you know, he knew he was breathing rarefied air --- the gifts that this show, this wonderful show gave us." Lynch was clearly choked up as she talked about Monteith and everything that made him special. "He was always aware that it was a gift and he was quite generous. He was one of those adventurous types of people. I always admired how he would get up ... you know, he would fly to Mexico, he'd throw parties for his friends. I don't think he left one day unlived. He was a real bright light in our family. We've lost a really great guy."
Lynch, who is never at a loss for words, was clearly struggling as she reminisced about her friend, who reportedly died due to "mixed drug toxicity." Leno then asked the Broadway buff to explain how she would like people to remember the brown-haired actor who played Finn Hudson on the hit FOX TV series. "He once flew across the country on his own nickel to meet with a sick kid whose last wish was to meet him. That's the kind of guy he was. He was just a real giver."
According to reports the actor was cremated on Tuesday following a private viewing with his family and girlfriend (and Glee co-star) Lea Michele. The 26-year-old is even planning her beau's funeral, according to Us Weekly. "She's been talking with Cory's family the entire time and wants to plan the whole funeral," an insider said. Will Monteith's other co-stars from the highly acclaimed TV show attend his funeral? We would bet our Glee DVD collection on it.
