Toby Keith is the richest man in country music, with a $500 million dollar net worth, easily outpacing superstar musicians like Jay-Z and Jennifer Lopez and solidifying his spot as a Forbes bigwig.
Keith was called "Country Music's $500 Million Man" on the cover of Forbes' Celebrity 100 issue, with nearly $65 million of his net worth over the last 20-years coming from the last 12 months along. The money magazine said that Keith has earned more than any other country music singer in the industry, from singing, songwriting and licensing projects.
"Keith pulled in $54 million over the last 12 months... easily outpacing masters of product extension like Jay-Z ($42 million), Beyoncé ($53 million) and Jennifer Lopez ($45 million)," Forbes said in the shocking revelation. "Over the past five years, Forbes estimates, Keith has never earned less than $48 million in a year. His cumulative take over that period: $270 million. Over his entire career - Keith has written a No. 1 country hit every year for the past two decades - his total earnings surpass $500 million," the article explained.
Some of Keith's biggest hits include "Beer for My Horses" and "I Love This Bar," which have virtually guaranteed the singer sold-out shows no matter what city he tours. But what many fans may not know is that Keith is just as success surpasses the stage, into entrepreneurial endeavors that have undoubtedly earned him some big bucks. Keith owns his own brand of Mezcal, a Mexican tequila that comes fully-equipped with the traditional worm, a high earner by all regards. Keith also has a restaurant chain under his ownership, aptly titled I Love This Bar, in honor of his 2003 hit song of the same title, which is headlined by it's Harrah's Las Vegas location.
And if those investments weren't prosperous enough, Keith wisely invested in Big Machine Records, owning a 10 percent stake in the label that represents huge stars like Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw and Rascal Flatts. "He's built this little empire, and he did it kind of quietly," concert promoter Louis Messina said. "Not many people have been able to pull it off as long as he is." Keith has attributed an eccentric singing style to his continued success, acknowledging the necessity to constantly stay relevant.
"When you've been around 20 years, it gets more difficult to reach the youth," Keith recently said. "So I step out of the box every once in a while to reach them." Toby Keith's latest album is slated for a fall release, and his first single "Drinks After Work" has already garnered high praise for its freshness.
