How I Met Your Mother has finally introduced us to Ted Mosby's future wife and mother of his two children in the Season 8 Finale Episode titled "Something New."
Our first full glimpse of "the mother" was a bittersweet moment for How I Met Your Mother fans. While the Shin's track "Simple Song" played, we held our breath as the camera slowly revealed the woman we've been waiting 184 episodes to meet.
The woman who was holding the iconic yellow umbrella at a train station ticket booth was Ted's wife played by 27-year-old Cristin Milioti.
So who exactly is the woman who has had Ted on an eight-season rant about how they met? Turns out Milioti is a talented, doe-eyed Broadway buff.
According to Entertainment Weekly Milioti played "Girl" in the Broadway play Once, which earned her a Tony nomination last year. In a New York Times video we heard the talented How I Met You Mother actress perform the song "Raglan Road" while strumming away on a ukulele. That means the clues of who Ted's wife was rang true to the script seeing that the mystery woman he was bound to fall in love with played bass in a reggae band.
According to reports, Milioti actually performs in the band at the nuptials between Barney and Robin, so it was important to co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas that they cast someone with a musical background.
"We're big fans of music, as I think the show has demonstrated, and we've already established that she's a bass player in a band. I think there will be a musical component to her character, and that was definitely a little bonus feature," Bays said.
"Last season, we flashed forward to a little glimpse of her playing bass in that band and that was before we had cast Cristin, so you just sort of saw a face and a shoulder, but we love the idea. For anyone that has gone and seen Once - she's not in it anymore, obviously - but she has an amazing voice. She's an amazing musician," Thomas added.
The casting of the How I Met Your Mother's most anticipated character was extremely thrilling for the creators of the CBS hit show.
"It was exciting," said Bays about choosing the actress to play the most nail-biting role. "Part of what helped us is our casting director Marisa [Ross], she sort of has been talking about Cristin for two years now. It helped that she turned us onto her and then the more we got to know Cristin and see her work, the more we realized, Yeah, she's the right choice. So that definitely helped, because we didn't want to do a big casting cattle call - we were going to make it 'come audition for Barney's cousin' or something."
But Milioti isn't a stranger to TV! The "mother" could be seen in the 2012 comedy Sleepwalk with Me, or in the drama The Sopranos, The Good Wife, and our (second) favorite role of Milioti could be seen in 30 Rock where she played a blond woman who talked like a sexy baby and really got on Liz Lemons nerves.
Some background information of The How I Met Your Mother star was revealed by iDigitalTimes:
"Cristin Milioti was born in Cherry Hill, N.J. on August 16, 1985. Upon graduating high school in 2003, Milioti attended New York University for acting classes and went on to work in Broadway," iDigitalTimes said.
Although fans of HIMYM have officially met the woman of Ted's dreams, we'll remain on the edge of our seat until next season when the hopeless romantic meets her for himself. According to reports, Milioti and her future husband will meet at a train station in the rain as Ted attempts to leave for Chicago; but, obviously, he'll be smitten by the yellow umbrella-toting bass player.
We're excited for Miloti to join the cast of How I Met Your Mother and we're looking forward to Season 9 to see how her relationship with Ted will unfold. A little tip to you, Milioti: maybe don't mention you're from Jersey when you first meet the New York native. We all know how he feels about New Jersey.
And that, kids ... is the incredible story. The story of how we met the mother.
