Did Kris Kross' Chris Kelly die of a drug overdose? New reports are coming out saying that Kelly, 34, may have died due to a possible mixture of heroin and cocaine.
On Wednesday, May 1, according to THR, Kelly was found unresponsive at his home and taken to the Atlanta Medical Center. He was declared dead by Betty Honey of the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office around 8 pm.
TMZ reported that paramedics originally arrived at Kelly's home in Atlanta around 3 p.m. ET after his mother called asking for assistance.
Now CNN is reporting that a woman, who called herself a friend of the Kris Kross rapper told police that Kelly had "taken a mixture of heroin and cocaine Tuesday night. "Kelly's friend also said she brought Kelly home "to recover from his drug use," according to a police report (via CNN).
Kelly's mother also reportedly told police (according to TMZ) that the night before Kelly died, the Kris Kross rapper had taken "speedballs," which is a mixture of heroin and cocaine. the night before Kelly's medical emergency, he had taken a mixture of heroin and cocaine -- commonly known as "speedballs."
Kris Kross' Kelly had an extensive history of drug use, according to his mother and uncle.
TMZ is now reporting that an autopsy on the Kris Kross rapper was conducted and "there were no signs of trauma or foul play. The cause of death will be determined by the complete toxicology report in 3-4 weeks."
Jermaine Dupri, who discovered Kris Kross (Kelly with Chris "Daddy Mac" Smith), released a statement about his lost friend. "To the world, Chris Kelly was MacDaddy but to me he was the son I never had."
"When I think about it I spent more time with Chris and Chris than damn near anybody in my whole life, so you can imagine how bad this hurts. I will always love you Chris, and I will never let the world forget you. May god bless your soul."
