Danica Patrick's divorce is final, and the end of the NASCAR star's marriage to Paul Hospenthal marks the first time the sexy race-car driver has been single in seven years.
Patrick announced that she was seeking a divorce from Hospenthal in November, citing that the marriage was "irretrievably broken" according to ESPN. Hospenthal did not contest the divorce, making the actions eligible to become official after a 60-day waiting period.
Just a day after Patrick was named the most popular driver in the Nationwide Series, the 31-year-old driver announced the divorce on Facebook.
"I am sad to inform my fans that after seven years, Paul and I have decided to amicably end our marriage. This isn't easy for either of us, but mutually it has come to this," Patrick explained. "He has been an important person and friend in my life and that's how we will remain moving forward."
Patrick's now ex-husband, Hospenthal, is a physical therapist and personal trainer in Scottsdale, Arizona. The two met when Hospenthal treated Patrick for a hip injury.
Despite the divorce proceeding, Patrick since moved on with fellow NASCAR driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in early February, and the two have been open about the relationship, frequently attending public appearances together. During driver introductions for the Bristol Motor Speedway race in March, Stenhouse confirmed the relationship, and told the crowd: "Sorry guys, she's taken."
Patrick celebrated her divorce from Hospenthal with current love, Stenhouse, with a romantic date the day after the decision was finalized. "My lovely @StenhouseJR took me to dinner and a movie. #painandgain is worth a trip to the theater!" Patrick wrote on Twitter on April 18.
Divorce documents said that Patrick and Hospenthal had a prenuptial agreement that established property interest and blocked alimony. Patrick paid for all court costs for the divorce proceedings. "My spouse and I did acquire community property during our marriage, and it will be divided as indicated on a Settlement Agreement which will be submitted to the court at a later date," Patrick's filing said.
In February Patrick opened up to Men's Health about her divorce from Hospenthal and subsequent relationship with 25-year-old Stenhouse. "You can't tell your heart who to like and not to like," she said. "It just happened."
