Last week on How I Met Your Mother, Ted and Barney meet the Twenty Years From Now versions of themselves. Present Day Ted argues with the Twenty Years From Now characters about whether or not he should attend Robots Versus Wrestlers. Twenty Years From Now Ted and Twenty Years From Now Barney were totally in favor of him going because, well, "you can't lose" when you go to Robots Versus Wrestlers.

Twenty Hours From Now Ted showed up last week in How I Met Your Mother, further confusing Present Day Ted. Twenty Hours From Now Ted says going is a terrible idea, because he will drink too much and have an awful hangover.

Then things get multidimensional in How I Met Your Mother when Twenty Minutes From Now Barney comes in and points out that Coat Check Girl is at MacLaren's. We haven't seen Coat Check Girl (Jayma Mays) since season 1 of How I Met Your Mother.

Ted's brain starts doing what it usually does in How I Met Your Mother and convinces him that after all this time, it must be fate that Coat Check Girl is there (which we've seen Ted do countless times over.) But right when he was about to approach her at the bar, Future Coat Check Girl shows up!

Future Coat Check Girl pulls him aside with a warning. She explained that if Ted approached her, there were two possible outcomes if they got together. Either she would become a crazy, obsessed girlfriend, or she would get tired with him. She reasons that those two ways are how all of Ted's relationships have ended, and he realizes it's true.

The mood at How I Met Your Mother's MacLaren's is decidedly sad, but then comes the comic relief that is Marshall and Robin. Robin had a drink named after her at MacLaren's, the same drink that Marshall invented called the Minnesota Tidal Wave. Marshall tries to challenge Robin to a dance-off for the namesake of the drink, but Lily stops him because of his hip injury.

Instead, a prank war ensues that results in Marshall getting caught in the women's bathroom. After the women's-bathroom incident resulted in him looking like a peeping Tom, the bartender dubbed the act of peeping on women in the bathroom "pulling a Marshall Eriksen." Lily allows the dance-off to take place. Robin exclaims, "I'm Sparkles, b**ch!" a classic How I Met Your Mother reference to her teen-sensation Canadian pop star past.

Flash back to Ted, who is sitting at their booth, who decides to just go home instead of going to Robots Versus Wrestlers. We realize that the entire episode was in Ted's head, and that he was literally sitting at MacLaren's by himself the entire How I Met Your Mother episode.

In this episode of How I Met Your Mother, Barney and Robin were actually at their apartment trying to find a caterer all night. Marshall and Lily were upstairs trying to put Marvin to bed. And Ted was all alone. For a brief moment, Ted wonders what he would do if he got the chance to relive that night and not go home.

He visited Robin and Barney, and Lily and Marshall. He would have made himself a part of his friends' lives. However, Narrator Ted has a different ending. He says instead of doing that or going home, he would run to his future wife's apartment (on 115 Street) and explain the future.

Narrator Ted imagines himself saying to his future wife:

"Hi. I'm Ted Mosby and exactly 45 days from now, you and I are going to meet, and we're going to fall in love and we're going to get married and we're going to have two kids. We're going to love them and each other so much. All that is 45 days away. But I'm here now, I guess, because I want those extra 45 days with you. I want each one of them. If I can't have them, I'll take the 45 seconds before your boyfriend shows up and punches me in the face. Because I love you. I'm always going to love you. To the end of my days and beyond."

That's when in Ted's mind, his mother's current boyfriend Louis would show up and punch him. It concluded with the Future Ted and Future Barney characters performing Billy Joel's "The Longest Time."

In How I Met Your Mother Season 8, Episode 21 'Romeward Bound', The Captain asks Lily to move to Rome for a year to be his art consultant. She fears that Marshall will resent her for the move. What we don't know is whether she wants to move her, Marshall, and Marvin to Rome as a family, or if she is contemplating moving there by herself for a year.

Meanwhile in How I Met Your Mother Season 8, Episode 21 "Romeward Bound", Ted and Barney become obsessed with a girl who is hiding her amazing body under a puffy coat.

Guest Stars in How I Met Your Mother Season 8, Episode 21 "Romeward Bound" include Kyle MacLachlan as The Captain, Mircea Monroe as Liddy, Mario Di Donati as the Auctioneer, Robert Baxt as Bernard, and Jocelyn Osorio as Belissima.
