Dorothy Hamill had to withdraw from Dancing with the Stars. Why did the ice skater have to leave the dancing show?
Unfortunately Hamill had to withdraw in the second week of competition on Dancing due to an injury.
"I've taken the advice of my spine surgeon and I need to withdraw from the competition. I have an injury that could be irreparable," Hamill said live on the show last night. "It would be completely unfair for me to stay in this and have any of these people go home."
"I wish that I could give it my all but I can't," she continued on DWTS. "It's been wonderful ride."
Hamill was not in the bottom two, either. That honor went to Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Star Lisa Vanderpump and Boxer Victor Ortiz.
Hamill had apparently been suffering from nerve damage in her right leg and back.
"It's not fair to the show. It's not fair to the other dancers," Hamill said to EW after last night's Dancing with the Stars. Hamill had competed on Monday night, but only learned the dance routine in two days hoping to feel better for the show.
Hamill was dancing with pro-dancer Tristan MacManus, who stood behind Hamill's decision.
"Today was amazing but I think yesterday was a big decision, to actually take on the show - and it was the wrong thing to do, in my opinion. But she did it and that should say more about her character more so than today," MacManus said to EW about Hamill.
Hamill decided only on Tuesday to withdraw from the show. "She sent me a message that said she needed to talk to me so I had a feeling that someone made a decision that I wanted her to make weeks ago - so I kind of prepared myself for it," MacManus revealed.
"I was relieved. Not in a negative way because I think it was the right decision. It was the last resort but it was the right decision. It was a decision that I wanted her to make before, but it wasn't my place to make."
Hamill admitted on Dancing with the Stars that seeing fellow ice skater Kristi Yamaguchi compete on the show helped her get through treatments for breast cancer.
"I loved when Kristi did the jive and I thought I'd never be able to do that - and clearly I wasn't able to do that, so that would've been fun. Tango..." Hamill said longingly to EW.
Hamill also admitted that it doesn't matter if she's competing or not- she'll still be a fan (and in the audience!)
Hamill leaving meant that no other couple had to go home last night. Ortiz, Vanderpump and fellow low-scoring dancer D.L. Hughley better step up their game if they no longer want to be in dancing jeopardy!
