Until recently, very few people knew Alison Pill's name. But no longer.

The actress accidentally upped her status by mistakenly tweeting a topless photo to her 13,790 followers on Twitter. The error has already pushed the somewhat unrecognizable actress to over 30,000 followers and counting.

After realizing her mistake, Alison quickly deleted her tweet and sent out a self-deprecating apology: "Yep. That picture happened. Ugh. My tech issues have now reached new heights, apparently. How a deletion turned into a tweet... Apologies."

The actress, who appears as Maggie Jordan on Aaron Sorkin's HBO series The Newsroom, may reap some benefits from her embarrassing tweet. Her previous roles have given her a girl-next-door image - quite the opposite of her sexy Newsroom co-star Olivia Munn.

In 2004's Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, Alison starred as Lindsay Lohan's goofy sidekick. She also appeared in Woody Allen's popular film Midnight in Paris as Zelda Fitzgerald. We wouldn't regard either role as helpful in building a male fan base.

If Olivia Munn's similar nude photo debacle from earlier this year is any indication, Alison's star may be on the rise.

While Olivia never fully admitted to the leaked pictures she did jokingly acknowledge them on Twitter. Whatever the source of the photos, they went a long way towards establishing a solid sex-symbol status.

We assume the photo was for Alison's fiance, actor Jay Baruchel. But it may just be what it takes to up the actress's sex appeal. And, let's be honest, it won't hurt Newsroom ratings either.
