Some critics dismissed Emma Stone's films "Easy A" and "Crazy, Stupid Love" as childish chic flicks. But we knew better.

In the last few years, Emma has made us cry watching "The Help" and laugh viewing "Crazy, Stupid Love." But the porcelain-skinned pixie has more than just comedic timing. She has a fashion confidence that would be rare for any 20-something.

That may be due, in part, to her brilliant stylist Petra Flannery. "My stylist is really into fashion," Stone said recently. "She's great with it!" On Emma's days off? "I have a lot of jeans and T-shirts and sweaters," she admits. "I kind of operate in that area most days."

But when she's on the carpet she ditches the jeans, opting instead for classic styles, color and volume.

Here are a few of her secrets:

She packs a punch with color

Hollywood heavyweights like Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie gravitate towards black and white. Why? Because the neutral hues look clean, polished and proper.

Color is more of a risk on the carpet. The only thing trickier is a pattern, which most stylists caution against. But rainbow-colored hues have been making a comeback the last year or two. And Stone was always ahead of the curve.

She was ravishing in red at 2012 Oscars and Met Gala, gorgeous in green at the 2012 Critics' Choice Awards and captivating in coral at the 2011 Golden Globes. The hues are always flirty and feminine. Just like her film characters.

She plays with proportions

Whether it's peplum or pouf, Emma never shies away from volume. She took our breath away in a Giambattista Valli colorblocked peplum. And this week she stunned in a poufy, wine-colored Rochas dress.

The drop waist on the Rochas dress was a risk - but the risk paid off.

She pops with patterns

Prints are always shunned on the carpet. So when Emma started showing up in polka dots, abstract florals and graphic prints, fans were shocked. The surprise quickly wore off, though, when onlookers realized the 23-year-old starlet was nailing it.

She keeps it classy

Deep Vs and thigh-high hems? Not for Emma. Though all her clothes are fashion-forward, they're never too tight or revealing. The Kardashians and "Jersey Shore" cast could learn a lot from Emma. Stop, watch and listen.
