Amanda Seyfried is a relative newcomer compared to Anne Hathaway, her co-star in "Les Miserables." But when the two showed up at the London film premiere yesterday fans did a double-take. It wasn't Hathaway who stunned this time around. In fact, she was overshadowed by the blond bombshell who has no big film roles on her resume.

At "The Dark Knight Rises" premiere over the summer, Hathaway wisely chose a form-fitting silhouette that showed off her angular frame. But on Wednesday the billowing, off-the-shoulder sleeves, all-over pearls and back ruffle felt overwhelming on the whisper-thin star.

Amanda Seyfried didn't make the same mistake. Opting for a black ruffle number with a down-to-there V from Nicolas Ghesquière's last collection for Balenciaga, Seyfried proved that black doesn't have to be boring. She also showed that despite having fewer films on her resume, she knows how to exercise restraint on the red carpet.

There was no necklace, watch or bracelet. Her waves were soft and natural. Her makeup rosy and cheerful.

Seyfried also chose one of the two designer names on everyone's lips. Three weeks ago, Nicolas Ghesquière shocked fans when he announced that he would leave Balenciaga after 15 years as creative director. According to a company announcement the departure was a joint decision by Ghesquière and the parent company PPR, which owns Balenciaga, Gucci and Saint Laurent.

"Cristóbal Balenciaga was a master, a genius whose avant-garde vision dictated fashion's greatest trends and inspired generations of designers," said Francois-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of the French luxury conglomerate PPR, in the statement. "With an incomparable creative talent, Nicolas has brought to Balenciaga an artistic contribution essential to the unique influence of the house."

Kristen Stewart has had a close relationship with Ghesquière for many years. "It's been fun being around [Nicolas Ghesquière] and seeing how things come out so impulsively and naturally in his work. Everything that Nicolas produces draws fearless people. You need to be an individual. It's not in your face, but it's not to be denied. He's one of the only guys I've ever met in this world where I feel like I'm working with a director," Stewart said in an interview

"Fashion can be a very superficial thing, all about money. But he creates a show. Sure you can pull clothes out of the show but its very conceptual. There are other people like that but it's rare."

Under Ghesquière, the fashion house secured relationships with celebrities, designing Oscar dresses for Jennifer Connelly and Nicole Kidman. Kidman also wore a Balenciaga bridal gown when she married Keith Urban in 2006.

Now that Alexander Wang is taking the helm at Balenciaga, Hollywood insiders wonder whether A-list celebs will have dual allegiances to Ghesquière and Wang. Either way, we know where Seyfried's loyalty was on Wednesday. And she shined.
