PUMA recently opened their first green store in Bangalore, India, unveiling several innovative design features that make the store "meet the highest criteria of sustainability."

"We've experimented with a bunch of neat stuff in the store," writes PUMA.

First, the entire store is solar powered and locally developed. Instead of air conditioning the building uses a heavily insulated shell and underground heat sink system to keep the store cool. The exterior facade was constructed using recycled steel and the posters are made from Jute, a thread made from vegetable fibers. The store's large windows mean 90 percent of the interior is exposed to natural light so less electricity is used.

"But of course, if we do need to illuminate our store we're using super-efficient LED lights," PUMA notes.

The opening night celebration last month was entirely carbon neutral, and visitors powered the store themselves by pedaling.
