The new Balmain Spring/Summer 2016 campaign featured the original supermodel squad, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer. The latest fashion ad delivered a major throwback, giving a 90s feeling.
A "dream come true," this is how Olivier Rousteing, haute couture fashion house's creative director, described their latest #BalmainArmy when he shared a photo on Instagram. The 30-year-old French fashion designer revealed that the three iconic stars were his influences of being "in love with fashion," as reported by People.
"While we shot these images, I had to smile as I imagined how my adolescent self would have reacted with utter disbelief," he said in a statement. "If someone could have traveled back in time to tell me that one day I would be in a New York studio, watching Steven Klein shoot Cindy, Claudia and Naomi for my Spring 2016 campaign — for those four singular talents have inspired me from day one."
It was their editorials that "first made clear to me the amazing transformative power of fashion," he added. "Still today, many years on, their iconic images are often found amongst the jumble on mood boards in my — and almost every other designers' — atelier. To say that working with them was a dream come true is no exaggeration."
Furthermore, Campbell, Crawford and Schiffer will also be featured in different close-up shots. They will be sporting sheer ensembles from the latest collection that displayed a sumptuous amount of their cleavage.
In their full-length pictures, they were displaying caged, tiered and ruffled looks. Huffington Post added that renowned celebrity photographer Steven Klein made the black-and-white series of snaps that will mark a "new chapter for Balmain," Rousteing disclosed.
Meanwhile, since he started to take hold of Balmain in 2011, Rousteing focused on enticing Generation Y consumers by featuring their ads with Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. He also got sister acts like Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Gigi and Bella Hadid.
