What's the latest status update on the iOS 7 jailbreak for iPhone, iPad and iPod? New rumors have been stirring on social media this week that have the jailbreak community anxious for news of how the iOS 7 jailbreak is progressing. With the eva3ders jailbreak team sinking into a long period of silence with no relevant updates on their progress, now was the perfect opportunity for false rumors to strike, beginning with everyone's favorite protagonist, @i0nic.
In a tweet submitted Thursday morning, the security researcher and author purported that it's possible there were some hitches in the iOS 7 jailbreak progress.
"So apparently someone around the evad3rs stole a jailbreak from them and sold it to a private buyer," tweeted i0n1c.
Once this tweet was out, it received a stream of replies with questioning for more details, scoffing, and for some, concern about the future of a free public iOS 7 jailbreak.
Were Exploits Stolen From The Evad3rs? Security Researcher @Pod2g Weighs In On Rumors And iOS 7 Jailbreak Status
While I have avoided writing any articles on the jailbreak status lately, I felt this was one topic which should be addressed, due to the fact I've already seen a number of blogs posting articles about the alleged stolen iOS 7 jailbreak and asking hypothetical questions or making assumptions about the future of the evad3rs jailbreak. Will the release date be delayed? Will the stolen exploits mean no public jailbreak at all? Though I already fully knew the answer to those questions without even consulting any of the Evad3rs, just for the sake of veracity, I did contact Evad3rs team member Cyril Cattiaux, aka @Pod2g, to have the report verified.
When I told him about the rumor of a stolen jailbreak roaming about social media, @pod2g was quick to laugh and say, "That's complete bullsh--."
As to the status of the team's work, he added, "the jailbreak stuff is moving on, but slowly."
So, basically, no. There has been no jailbreak stolen from the Evad3rs and sold. As a result, the release date has not been impacted because the rumor is false. And yes, there will certainly still be a free public jailbreak release by the evad3rs. We have to keep in mind, while @i0n1c is certainly a credible source for the most part, and has an extensive amount of knowledge concerning the way vulnerabilities can be found to create exploits, and how jailbreaks can be created from these exploits, he is also pretty notorious for trolling the jailbreak community. If he heard a rumor that would be worrisome to the jailbreak community, I'm fairly certain he'll be quick to share it.
When Will The IOS 7 Jailbreak Release?
But what about a release date? Why have the evad3rs been so quiet? What is happening behind the scenes? Can we expect a jailbreak before 2013 ends for iPhone, iPad and iPod, or will be the time frame be like that of the iOS 6 jailbreak? While there are details I am not at the liberty to share, I will say there have been some roadblocks along the way, but as usual, the 4 members of the evad3rs have found ways to overcome those challenges and continue to work diligently as a team. As we know, we never hear release dates until the jailbreak is completely finished and very nearly ready for public release. It would be foolhardy to expect anything different from the iOS 7 jailbreak.
If I had to make a guess — and I hesitate to even do it — I would say, optimistically speaking, we will see it release before the close of 2013. On the pessimistic side, I cannot imagine it will be a longer wait than iOS 6 was which released in early February 2013. I would say it's quite likely iOS 7.1 will be out before the jailbreak is released, but again, this entire last paragraph is complete supposition on my part, so don't take it too seriously. I do know when the time draws near everyone will see the signs. When the guys have more time or are at greater liberty to speak I will try to extract a few more details on the status of the iOS 7.
