An iOS 7 jailbreak for iPhone, iPad, iPad Mini and iPods is well underway as evad3rs team member David Wang aka @planetbeing tweeted this evening that "We're still working hard on the jailbreak. May have all the pieces at this point (but not certain yet)."
Though the new iOS 7 system has barely been out a month, it seems the makers of the Evasi0n jailbreak aren't wasting any time in getting to work on an iOS 7 jailbreak. Throughout the process, the entire team has been pretty vocal about sharing progress they are making. As @Pod2g shared with us prior to the evasi0n jailbreak for iOS 6 release, the team had a few vulnerabilities remaining which were usable for either an iOS 6.1.3 untethered jailbreak or an iOS 7 jailbreak.
@Pod2g And @MuscleNerd Share Progress But Warn Against Becoming Too Optimistic
Though I'm uncertain if current vulnerabilities found are those which were saved from earlier in the year or not, in speaking with @Pod2g this week, he shared,
"I found several vulnerabilities for iOS 7. Just missing a few and we're good to go ... I hope that we will succeed."
At the time he asked me not to share this information as he didn't want to "tease" anyone this early. Taking his comments along with the information from @planetbeing, however, it seems the guys are definitely on the right path. When I spoke to @MuscleNerd about the progress on the iOS 7 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5, 4S, iPads and iPods, he also was careful to remind me not to get overly optimistic.
"Yeah definitely, [we've made progress] but don't jinx it. The kernel stuff is a tough nut."
So, Is An iOS 7 Jailbreak Release Date Near?
And, indeed, many questions have arisen concerning the new hardware in the iPhone 5S, updated kernel protections in iOS 7 and the way new security features may impact the making of a jailbreak for iOS 7. Those questions I hope to have answered by the guys when they get a chance, but at this point they remain unanswered.
So is the iOS 7 jailbreak near? Well, clearly, none of the guys are saying the jailbreak is "near" in any way. Though they've done a fabulous job of sending out tidbits of progress and letting us know they are working, we all have seen how the timeline has gone with past jailbreaks. I, admittedly, am the very worst for becoming too optimistic too quickly and so I warn all of you against that same fault, but for now the progress definitely appears to be positive.
Will Evad3rs Wait For iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 To Release iOS 7 Jailbreak?
I've emailed @planetbeing, @MuscleNerd and @pod2g with a few questions about their progress and when they have time to answer — or if they have anything significant to share — I feel confident they will. This week when @Pod2g and I discussed the team's progress, I asked him if they would be inclined to wait for new devices like the iPad 5 or iPad Mini 2 to release or if they would put out what they had as soon as possible. To that he answered, "That's a good question. We usually think about that when we have something ready."
This is yet another indication that though the work is coming along, clearly it's not anywhere near ready. The somewhat exciting thing, however, is that we know @pod2g and @pimskek will be together at HITB in Malaysia which takes place in just two weeks. There is a good chance the fellows will get together and work on some things there.

Earlier this month, the fellows were cooking up some special sauce as @pimskeks tweeted pretty late in the evening that he had been working on some "funny stuff" with @pod2g. At which point @pod2g let jailbreak fans know he had full confidence and iOS 7 jailbreak would be possible.
. @pimskeks being more and more confident about an iOS 7 public jailbreak ;-) [ that does not mean soon ] — pod2g (@pod2g) September 13, 2013
Even though no ETA is clearly in sight for the iOS 7 untethered jailbreak on iPhones, iPads and iPods, it's still pretty exciting to watch the progress, knowing that before too long it will be here.
