Rumors are officially swirling about the anticipated iPad 5, from its release date to its features and specs. The iPad 5 launch is rumored to see the tablet become thinner and lighter than ever before. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo with KGI Securities certainly has predictions about the iPad 5's impressive features and specs, and a potential release date.

"We think the tablet will, at 7.5-8.0mm, be 15 percent thinner than iPad 4," said Kuo. "The new device will likely be about 500 grams, or some 25 percent lighter than iPad 4, run on an A7X processor, and sport cameras with similar specs to the iPad 4's (front HD, rear 5MP). The casing shape and color (silver and black) and narrow bezel design will be similar to the iPad mini's."

Rumors indicate that the Apple iPad 5 will be running on Apple A7X quad-core processor, with 1-2GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB/64GB/128GB storage options. For cell-phone photographers, a 5-8MP rear facing camera and 1.3MP front facing camera are featured on the device. iPad 5's connectivity options include WiFi + 4G LTE, and Bluetooth 4.0 with Lightning Connector. Storage options include 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB.

The iPad 5's power chip is speculated by Kuo to be a Samsung chip. The last round of rumors saw Apple undergoing its own A-series chip production with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) as opposed to using competitor Samsung's. Kuo predicts that this partnership will probably not start production on the 20-nonometer A7 chips until early 2014. The iPad5 will take advantage of Samsung's 28-nonometer process node.

The Apple iPad 5 features may also include some features that are found on the iPad Mini, including, but not limited to, the multilayer-glass-based GF2 touch technology that will allow the iPad 5 display to be thinner than any previous version of the device.

Analyst Kuo also points out Apple iPad's long-running problem of battery life. Because Apple has struggled to balance power consumption or overheating to increase battery life, Kuo predicts that Apple may release the iPad 5 with a thinner and smaller battery.

"We therefore think that iPad 5's battery capacity will be 25-30 percent smaller, at 8,500-9,000mAh, than iPad 4's," the KGI Securities representative speculates. "And the battery's thickness will be 15-20 percent smaller, at 7.5-8.0mm, and the number of cells will be reduced to two from three." Apple, Inc. has yet to comment on these rumors.

There is one thing we may know for sure about the iPad 5, though. The new rumored iPad 5 case design has been leaked by manufacturer Tactus. The alleged iPad 5 case pictures show a design very similar to the iPad mini's.

Tactus says the iPad 5 case design will come with the standard 9.7-inch screen, but may be thinner do to the different screen glass. The source of the leak is anonymous, for now. The Apple iPad manufacturer predicts that an 8 megapixel camera may be found on the device, and storage options from 16GB through 128GB.

Apple aficionados are expecting the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 to have similar features. The iPad 5 release date has been rumored to be every month from now until October and nothing is confirmed. However, Kuo has recently issued a report claiming that Apple's iPhone 5S, lower-cost iPhone, and second-gen iPad mini will launch later than currently expected.

Scenarios including August/September, September/October, and October/November timeframes are being predicted by Kuo, but nothing's set in stone. Looks like Apple and technology fans have to look forward to an official statement from the company.
