Sony on PS4: "We Know Our Release Date"

Sony on the other hand is remaining as tight-lipped as ever about the date the Playstation 4 might launch as just last week Michael Denny, Sony Worldwide Studio's vice president, confidently asserted that the relese date was well known within the company. Speaking with Edge-Online about how the work on the PS4 was going, he made a point early in the conversation of letting Edge-Online and it's reader know, Sony has the users best interest in mind by putting developers concerns in the forefront. This of course could mean the release is further away than we like, but in the long run, Denny says, it is the gamers who win.

Denny also seemed to be pretty excited about the design aspects of the PS4, teasing some release date details that told us nothing but made us anticipate it all the more

"I'm not sure it's instructive for me to start trying to describe or talk about what I've seen or haven't seen in terms of the actual look of the box. But yeah, you know it's going to be another fantastic design and we can't wait to reveal it."

@TaraLongest @dtoidshow great show. I think microsoft have lost the plot. #PS4 all the way for me! Hurry up with release date @Sony #excited

Hurry we hope they do but for now the only comfort we have is in knowing that, though we have no inkling what day the Sony next gen console will launch, Sony certainly does.

"As I say, we know our launch date, and we think it's very important that gamers receive that new console experience. With that in mind, we just thought it was the right time to set the vision and set the agenda in New York."

Even if the "Last of Us" teaser doesn't end up being the actual release date, one thing is certain, whatever happens, it's gonna be good.

PS4 vs. Xbox 720 price comparison speculation.

Both the PS4 and Xbox 720 are expected to cost under $400, according to a report from OXCGN citing a post to Reddit by an anonymous console developer. The developer claims to know for a fact that both consoles will retail for between $300 and $350. However, considering the PS4's beefed up specs compared to the Xbox 720, it's possible that Sony's system could cost significantly more than Microsoft's.

Sony PS4 Release Date 2103 Near? Specs Featured in Pictures and Concept Video Resonate With Fans

Since the start of 2013, anticipation over the Sony PS4 release date has been running high as, for a while, rumors ran rampant concerning when we would see the PS4 , what spec and features the new Playstation 4 would have, and how much it would cost. On Friday the rumor mill began rolling again as a picture of an egg-shaped device appeared on the Sony UK Facebook page and some are speculating that this may be our first glimpse at the Sony PS4.

"It's coming" is all the text included with the photo only further enforcing the believe that the picture indeed could be Sony's next-generation console. Of course theses are not the only Sony PS4 rumors that got going upon viewing the egg-shaped device. Some are also speculating that this may be a hint at the release date, setting it for the Easter holiday.

If this is the case I'm sure many a Sony PlayStation fan will be pretty tickled today, as Easter is just over a week away. Others also speculate that the photo being displayed on the UK page may indicate that the is who will see the Sony PS4 release date arrive first.

Still others feel solidly certain that the shape and color of the unnamed device  are actually a hat tip to the partnership Sony entered with Italian indie studio Ovosonico. The root of the company name comes from the word "ovo" which means egg and the red, egg-shaped design, looks pretty similar to the logo on the Ovosonico Twitter account.

We really don't know what to expect in the Sony PlayStation 4 but it's highly possible this is our first glimpse and possibly the release date on the PS4 is not too far away.

It's interesting however that on the same day this photo emerges, s does a new concept video by Rob Redman, Technical Editor 3D World for T3, which looks nothing like the egg shaped figure featured on the UK Sony website.

The PlayStation 4 Concept Design 2013video asks viewers the question: "Could this be the new PS4?"

The mock-up has been created in 3D and is based off Sony's February 20th New York launch specs while utilizing a body design like the classic PS4 systems.

Here are some of the confirmed PS4 2013 Release Date Specs the concept video features:

  •  CPU: single-chip custom processor, x86-64 AMD "Jaguar" 8 Cores
  •  GPU: 1.84 TFLOPS, AMD next generation Radeon based graphics engine
  •  Memory: 8GB GDDR5

  •  USB 3 and Auxillary ports
  •  Gigabit Ethernet port, 802.11 B/G/N built-in WIFI, and Bluetooth 2.1
  •  HDMI, Analog AV, and digital optical outputs

In addition to the specs found in the concept video, here a few more expected features in the new Sony Playstation 4

Sony recently released some official screenshots of the PS4 user interface, and boy was it something to be excited about. Integrating home entertainment features and social media functionalities, the device is just adding more ways to enjoy and love owing the PS4. The Sony PS4 DualShock 4 controller has been completely remodeled and cloud gaming technology is expected to be present. Also most rumors are holding that the PS4 price will come in between $400 and $500 upon release.

While we are all still standing by to find when the official release date for the Sony PS4 will be, our hope is the Holiday rumors which have recently emerged will proved to be fact.
