The GTA 5 release date was dropped not that long ago by Rockstar in a January 31st press release. At the time, the date of September 17, 2013 was given for the official GTA V release. Though this date seems more than likely to be the actual for Grand Theft Auto 5, it seems rumors having been plaguing the web regarding possible changes to the 2013 release date. Some bold enough to claim a move up to May, while others asserting a cynical 2014 pushback for the long awaited GTA 5 release date. With this crazy nonsense flying through the blogosphere, it's difficult to keep ones bearings on what is fact and what is fiction.
Though the latest rumors claim that Microsoft's new pre-order deal could have actually been a leaked launch date, we're still not convinced you should even give this rumor a second glance. For those who feed off the hysteria however, here's what the rumor claims regarding the GTA 5 release date.
GTA 5 Release Date Pushed Back Till The New Year? Microsoft "Leak" Says Maybe
So according to an article posted Sunday afternoon on Autoomobile, the GTA 5 release date could be pushed back to 2014.
Yep, the "report" seems to think a date was inadvertently leaked by Microsoft which could get fans jumping mad if it were true. Rest assured however, we still stand by a GTA V release date of September 17, as in our minds, the only word to trust is from the mouth of the maker - Rockstar.
Still, this claim coming from Autoomobile states that Microsoft will be holding a Pre-Order deal on the Grand Theft Auto 5 title available only at the Xbox 360 online store. Basically here's what it boils down to. When users buy the title in the Xbox 360 online store, they are given 1600 Microsoft points. This is a pretty nice little bonus in and of itself, however, there is a catch: the pre-order special is available until December 31st, 2013 on the "Grand Theft Auto" game. Of course if you but two and two together this is how the whole "GTA 5 release date may be pushed back to 2014" rumor got started. As many have noted however, it seems pretty unlikely and actually quite silly to think GTA 5 would release later than Fall 2013 as Rockstar nearly always schedules new iterations for the Fall. If you're curious however to see just what the rumor mill has stirring concerning the push back of the GTA 5 release date then read on for details from AutooMobile:
Microsoft states the deal is only in limited supply so you should order quick. However in the terms and conditions, they put the GTA 5 pre-order window as ending on December 31st 2013...
So the obvious question is how does the offer end on Dec. 31, 2013 if GTA 5 is due out on September 17, and you're supposed to pre-order? Is there the possibility that the GTA 5 release date is being pushed back to the Christmas holidays? And if so does this apply to the Xbox 360 version only?
...Of course all these are just rumors at the moment and forum goers are still trying to figure out what it means.
Yeah, if you're like me, right about now you're probably rolling your eyes at the sensational nature of this "report".
Yep, safe to say someone had too much time on his or her hands that day or not enough news. Of course when it comes to such an anticipated release date as that of GTA 5 it's no wonder we hear of people latching on to suppositions and letting them go hog wild. Everything from claims of an early spring release to fearful warnings it could be 2014, when it comes down to it, GTA 5 release date isn't likely to change anytime soon, so hang tight for September 17th, 2013.
Rockstar Issues a Statement Regarding False GTA 5 Release Date Delay Rumors
Keep in mind the guys at Rockstar have been making games we love to play for a while now so if there is any delay on a release date, it probably has to do with a certain standard of excellence they hold themselves to. In fact, in a recent press statement, Rockstar said as much themselves:
"Hey all, we understand many of you guys are disappointed with this news - unfortunately sometimes such delays are necessary in all forms of entertainment, and especially in the case of a game experience as massive and complex as GTAV...To those of you saying or seeing various conspiracy theories about there being some other ulterior motive for this delay, rest assured that they're all nonsense - literally the only reason we've delayed the release is because we want the game to be as good as it needs to be..."
This statement came after a flood of harassment concerning delays on the release which ballooned into an ugly conspiracy theory the Rockstar folk felt had to be addressed.
I don't know about you but I'm more than happy to bide my time till the GTA 5 release date, regardless of when it may fall for when it does come it's sure to be killer.
GTA 5 Release Date Terrain Map Mock-Up Created With ScreenShots: Amazing!
Meanwhile one really cool development which recently emerged out of the wait for the GTA 5 release date has been some creative work on the part of a user on GTAForums. It seems this fellow has put together a mock-up map of the finished GTA V game. Though the creator isn't claiming it's what the true finished product will look like, still you have to give the guy props for a job well done.
The map is meant to show the location of Los Santos in relation to the rest of the game world and in my opinion is quite brilliant. Check it out below:
GRAND THEFT AUTO 5: About the Game ( from CNET)
GTA V will be five times the size of Red Dead Redemption and take place in the fictional city of Los Santos, which is loosely based on Los Angeles. Players will take on the role of three separate characters -- a first for the franchise -- and alternate among each. Michael, Trevor, and Franklin each possesses a different skill set and will need to work together to pull off what Rockstar is calling "a series of heists." When not involved in a specific mission, players will have the option to assume each of their identities at will. GTA V is expected in the Spring of 2013.
The trailer also reveals some of GTA V's tone, which suggests more of a buddy action film as opposed to the intense dramatics of previous games in the series.
Rockstar Games has provided some more in-depth character descriptions of each playable character in the game:
Michael: Michael is a veteran bank robber, an expert, with the kind of knowledge that only comes from years as a successful career criminal. He's now retired, living comfortably in an unofficial sort of witness protection program.
Trevor: Trevor's a career criminal and extremely volatile individual, prone to destructive outbursts and violent rampages. He's easily the most psychopathic criminal to ever share the lead in a Grand Theft Auto game, but he's not without some charm. Trevor is also ex-military and an experienced pilot.
Franklin: Franklin works as a repo man for an Armenian luxury car dealership that runs scams on ambitious young hot shots with new money, selling them expensive cars they can't afford. When they can't make their payments but want to keep their cars, it's Franklin's job to get them back. Franklin lives in South Los Santos.
