Even password protected wireless internet can be hacked into fairly easily. Whether you're at home or at work, there's private information being sent over your internet connection that should be protected.
Designers from a Finish firm have come up with an easy way to protect your Wi-Fi: special wallpaper that keeps the signal from traveling beyond our walls.
"A wireless network has security that can be cracked by anyone crafty enough," said designer Pierre Lemaitre-Auger according to linformaticien.com. "If you put wallpaper on the walls around an office or apartment, your Wi-Fi will works well but cannot be hacked [Translation]."
The miracle product was developed by researchers at the Centre Technique du Papier and the Institut Polyechnique Grenoble INP in France. The product looks and feels like regular wallpaper, only it's silver. That's because it contains silver particles, which allow cellphone signals to travel through them but stops Wi-Fi in its tracks. The Wi-Fi blocking wallpaper will go on the market next year for around the same price as normal wallpaper, according to DesignBuzz.
The one drawback? To actually protect our Wi-Fi from intruders you'll need to paper up your walls, ceilings, floors, doors and windows, giving your office or home the feel of an insane asylum. However, the French developers say they are now hard at work designing a transparent film version to be used on other surfaces.
