Rene Angelil has passed away on Thursday after battling throat cancer. It was the multi-awarded singer Celine Dion who, herself, confirmed that her husband has died at his home in Las Vegas.

"Rene Angelil passed away this morning at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer," the "That's The Way It Is" hitmaker wrote on her official Twitter account, confirming the tragic news. Celine and Rene share three kids: Rene-Charles, 14, and twins, Eddy and Nelson, 5.

Born and raised in Montreal, Rene went into the artist management business and became Celine's manager. The couple got married in 1994 a few years after the singer made her biggest and most remarkable hit single "My Heart Will Go On" which is featured in James Cameron's Titanic film and cemented her legendary status as a singer.

Celine decided to take a hiatus from her residency in Las Vegas in August 2014. The "Beauty and the Beast" singer then shared, at that time, her husband's battle to throat cancer.

Meanwhile, aside from Celine, a representative of Rene also confirmed the heartbreaking news. "René Angélil, 73, passed away this morning at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer," the statement sent to Us Weekly read. "The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment; more details will be provided at a later time."

Moreover, the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner released a statement regarding the passing of Rene. "Mr. Angélil, 73, died of throat cancer at his home in Henderson while under the care of a physician," a statement from Clark County coroner John Fudenberg read. "We have determined Mr. Angélil's death was due to natural causes. No further investigation into his death is expected. Our condolences go out to Mr. Angélil's family and friends during this difficult time for them."
