Jaden Smith is now the new face of Louis Vuitton's "Series 4" spring-summer 2016 collection. Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith's son stunned many when they saw him wearing a skirt along with other three female models in an advertising campaign made by Bruce Weber.
The 17-year-old actor often defied gender norms as he was already seen sporting a women's outfit before. "Why does Jaden Smith star in this campaign?" the luxury brand's creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere started as he was about to justify why they chose the rapper as their star in a press release.
"Wearing a skirt comes as naturally to him as it would to a woman who, long ago, granted herself permission to wear a man's trench or a tuxedo," he said, as noted by E! Online. "He represents a generation that has assimilated the codes of true freedom, one that is free of manifestos and questions about gender."
For LV, they found Jaden has something in him that might be very interesting for others, especially to break the difference between men and women's clothing. "He's found an instinctive balance that makes his extraordinary attitude a new norm. That really inspired me in the creative process for this collection."
Meanwhile, The Guardian added that the rapper's new promotional ad brought smiles to many as he showed that he is not following the usual standard dictated by the society. He also evidently doesn't do just what everyone would think about him. He only follows what he wants and loves to do.
In fact, he's now an epitome for showing gender equality and can set a good example for everyone. "He is the living, sartorial manifestation of William Purkey's advice to 'dance like nobody's watching'," the publication wrote.
